Project Needs & Objectives
The primary goal of the project was to construct a robust industrial building for M/s Spice Route to support their operations in the Ghiloth Industrial Area. The project requirements included:
- Design Approval: Development and approval of initial structural and anchor bolt designs to meet industry standards.
- Timely Delivery: Adherence to a strict timeline for material delivery and erection to ensure smooth project progression.
- Structural Integrity: Ensuring the construction met safety standards to withstand environmental and operational stresses.
- Efficient Execution: Using appropriate erection methodologies to achieve high-quality results within the defined timeline.
Challenges
The project faced several significant challenges:
- Environmental Hazards:
- Unpredictable weather conditions, including strong winds and sudden storms.
- Mountainous terrain in the vicinity exacerbated the impact of high-pressure winds.
- Material Damage:
- The erected structure collapsed on March 30, 2023, due to the storm, causing extensive damage to structural materials and surrounding property.
- Safety Concerns:
- Ensuring worker safety during adverse weather conditions.
- Managing the site post-collision to prevent further hazards.
- Project Delays:
- Collapse of the structure resulted in unanticipated delays and increased workload to reassess and rebuild.
Solutions
- Proactive Design Approval:
- All initial designs, including anchor bolts, were meticulously reviewed and approved to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Streamlined Material Delivery:
- Anchor bolts were delivered on November 15, 2022, and structural materials were supplied in phases, starting February 25, 2023, to March 13, 2023.
- Safety-First Approach:
- The erection team followed a well-documented erection methodology.
- During the storm on March 30, 2023, the team immediately halted operations, removed machinery, and evacuated workers to ensure safety.
- Post-Collapse Analysis and Planning:
- Conducted a detailed assessment of the damage.
- Developed a revised strategy to rebuild and mitigate risks from environmental factors in future projects.
